Garth Brooks;…‘The Thunder Rolls in Nashville, TN’

True country music is honesty, sincerity, and real life to the hilt. Garth Brooks

You know Nashville, there’s people that are ten times more talented than me, ten times better singer than me, song writer than me, but for some reason you get the ball and now – and now you run with it. And you do the best you can. Garth Brooks

Troyal Garth Brooks (born February 7, 1962) is an American country music artist. His eponymous first album was released in 1989 and peaked at Number 2 in the US country album chart while climbing to number 13 on the Billboard 200 album chart.

I love being a part of country music. I love going out and… doing things for the first time for country music. I always enjoy that. Garth Brooks

Chris Leuzinger (Nashville Session musician with more than 20 years experience working with Crystal Gayle, Dobie Gray, Buffy Saint-Marie, Emmylou Harris, Kenny Rogers, Kathy Mattea, Billy Dean, Tracy Lawrence, Robert Ellis Orrall, Hal Ketchum and Julio Iglesias)

“One day (producer) Allen Reynolds called me: ‘There’s a new guy I’m going to be working with, and we are going to cut four sides ‘  The record label had given Garth some Money and wanted to see what would happen. The label was knocked out by it, so they had us finish an album. They started releasing singles and it took it off” Chris Leuzinger

Working with Brooks, Leuzinger  is given many opportunities to showcase his verstility. Tracks like “Friends in Low Places” and “Against the Grain” display his country chops ,

The Thunder Rolls” and “ The River” show his slide skills and “Shameless” exposes his lyrical rock playing.

“Garth has been very loyal , he likes to having the same people there . It’s neat because it’s enabled us to become more like a band instead of a bunch of Studio guys. We play together really well. There’s certain bit of magic that goes into those records with Garth”   Chris Leuzinger – Guitar Player (June 1993)

I remember in the ’80s, Randy Travis was my guy. He’s the reason I moved to Nashville, and I just loved him. But at some point when he was winning everything, you find yourself pulling for other people. Garth Brooks

Brooks’ integration of rock elements into his recordings and live performances has earned him immense popularity. This progressive approach allowed him to dominate the country single and album charts while quickly crossing over into the mainstream pop arena, exposing country music to a larger audience.

While Brooks’s musical style placed him squarely within the boundaries of country music, he was strongly influenced by the 1970s singer-songwriter movement, especially the works of James Taylor (whom he idolized and named his first child after) and Dan Fogelberg. Similarly, Brooks was influenced by 1970s-era rock of Billy Joel, and Bruce Springsteen and the operatic rock of Queen with Freddie Mercury. In his highly successful live shows, Brooks used a wireless headset microphone to free himself to run about the stage, adding energy and arena rock theatrics to spice up the normally staid country music approach to concerts. The hard rock band KISS was also one of his earliest grade school musical influences and his shows often reflected this. Brooks said that the style of his show was inspired mostly by Chris LeDoux.

If God came down here with the box that had the reason for living in it, I’d like to find just 2 words: The Music. That would be neat. Garth Brooks

Some of God’s greatest gifts are unanswered prayers. Garth Brooks

Not a soul in sight,

The city’s lookin’ like a ghost town

On a moonless summer night.

When I first came to Nashville, people hardly gave country music any respect. We lived in old cars and dirty hotels, and we ate when we could. Loretta Lynn

Nashville is one of the greatest places for the best songwriters in the world. It’s been fantastic to live there and to raise our family there. It’s a great town. Faith Hill

You know, when you’re an actor, you want to go to Hollywood. When you’re a musician, you want to go to Nashville.Richie Sambora

Nashville has a great creative atmosphere. It’s a small, close-knit music community that you can’t find anywhere else. Kim Carnes

Country artists, I met a lot of them when I was five, six years old. I had an uncle who was a country and western singer and I met Lefty Frizzell when I was five or six years old in those shows that would come through Toronto from Nashville. Rick Danko

I’m from Tullahoma, TN which is an hour south of Nashville, and I grew up and wanted to be like Garth Brooks, so I moved to Nashville when I was 18 to chase a dream. Dustin Lynch
